Brian Piccini — who owns Boston Urban Hospitality and runs Boston Chops, bar, and Deuxave — is set to change Weston’s nightlife scene by opening The Woods at the Josiah Smith Tavern at 358 Boston Post Road.
The tavern site has been around since 1757. But proposals to open a restaurant at that spot didn’t happen until 2009, and plans weren’t approved until August 2023, Boston Restaurant Talk noted.
“Friends have often asked how I could live in a dry town, and I am thrilled to share that I am about to change that!” Piccini wrote in a Facebook post.
The Woods will be Weston’s first restaurant with a liquor license, he added.
“I thought it was going to be impossible to get a liquor license in Weston, but the town had actually done the legislative work to already get the liquor license for this one project,” Piccini told the Boston Globe.
He is planning on teaming up with Captain Marden’s seafood for fresh fish and Land’s Sake Farm for vegetables.
The Woods will start out serving dinner and then branch out with lunch.
Piccini wants his staff in Boston to come to the Weston restaurant, with Boston Chops culinary director Carter managing the menu.
